When Axel and I (Damaris) got married 11 years ago today (11/25), there wasn't the help of Pinterest or Instagram to get our wedding looking like a million bucks on a low budget. I had to rely on magazines and tv shows for inspiration. But they did not detail the creative aspect of weddings; the DIY projects and the extra creative tablescapes. As a crafter, I think I did pretty well in planning my own Florida wedding - all the way FROM NEW YORK! The stress level was high, and we managed to get through it, but one major element slipped through my bridezilla hands... the photographer.
If you are interested, I've shared more details about that story today, on my personal blog.
But despite all of the unsatisfied results, one photo stood apart from the rest. It's the photo I have treasured since I first saw it, and it's the photo that's been sitting on my craft table for 3 weeks.
I chose to work with the "Carousel" collection by Maggie Holmes, because it's my current favorite, and I am inspired by not only the colors, but the sweet & romantic mood it encompases.
The idea for this layout was to use left overs, a Free File from the Paper Issues shop called "Seek The Mountain Peak" and other elements from the collection. I don't normally begin a page with a title in mind. That part just kind of "magically" (hehe) happens. In this case, I was inspired by one of the pattern papers, to fussy cut two words and prop them up on adhesive dimensionals.
I knew I wanted triangles at the bottom of the page, with florals surrounding the photo. And I also knew I wanted to add cute ephemera, but the paint splatters happened as a cover up. Once I was done, I noticed a dark greyish black smudge to the middle of the page. Normally, my awesome Tonic Studios eraser is able to rid my projects of any weird smudges, but this one did not budge. So I covered the photo and clusters with scraps, grabbed my Heidi Swap Color Shine spray, and flicked black drops over the affected area, then created a flow from the top to the bottom, so it looked purposely placed there. Don't you love happy accidents?
