It's so hard to believe that my baby, Adaline, is already ONE! What's harder to believe is that it took me eleven months to finally get around to decorating her room. Now to be fair, her room used to belong to her older sister and it was already decorated. I felt it needed a bit of a refresher though.
I already had the frames in place and had attached the wooden letter to the burlap with some Crazy Glue. What was missing was decorating of the other eight frames! While I was going through my stash of awesome goodies from Paper Issues, it was pretty obvious that Maggie Holmes' Chasing Dreams collection would be perfect! Luckily I hadn't really dug into it and I had tons of awesome pieces to work with.
I was instantly drawn to the girl with long brown hair. If my girls take after my husband's side of the family, they will probably grow up to look just like this girl!
I treated every frame like a mini layout or card in a pocket page. I chose a base paper and then added in a mix of embellishments. The Chasing Dreams collection includes so many amazing pieces - chipboard, ephemera, tiny word and label stickers, puffy stickers, icon stickers and even more chipboard! Other pieces in the collection, which I did not have on hand, include buttons and washi.
I laid out all my frames on the floor and embellished one frame at a time. This way I could ensure that the balance of colors was right. I wanted to avoid having all the same color clustered together. I also paid attention to the patterns - I mixed more subtle patterns with bolder, graphic patterns.
Next came the embellishments. Again, I made sure to have a mix of all the different embellishments in all the frames. I love the way a patterned piece of paper, one piece of ephemera and a puffy sticker can come together to create a perfect frame. Easy peasy!
Can I also say that the sentiments in this collection are beyond perfect for a little girls' room. The butterflies, birds and florals all worked well together too.
