White is the New White - Cat Martin

Hey everyone, long long time no see!  I have been away for almost 2 weeks, and during that time I haven't had a chance to do any scrapping, so I have been missing out on all the amazing challenges that have been going on over on the Paper Issues Facebook Page, but, the upside is I now have a ton more photos to scrap!!!  So when it came to choosing my first photo of my trip to scrap I decided on one that was, of course, a selfie, but I also loved the colors and images in the photo.

 I immediately knew I didn't want a patterned paper background for it, though I did want to back it with lots of layers of patterned paper.  The only issue with that is, I'm not the biggest fan of just using white cardstock all the time, so I decided to dress up my white background with . . . more white!  I know it may not seem like much, but the addition of the crepe paper layered and accordion folded really added an underlying softness and whimsy to my layout.  It also allowed me to not worry about covering up a ton of the page, as there was still a ton of visual interest going on, even in the negative, or white space!  Other ways to do this would be to layer white fringed paper, or add white stitching, or cut a cutfile out in white and use a little bit of foam for dimension over top of the white card stock!  You could also do white modeling paste, or use white alphas or phrases on top of your white background!

 For my layout as well I mixed old product with new product, and cream with white.  I had some older chipboard flowers from Crate Paper and even though they were a cream base I loved how they looked with all my other embellishments.  I also used the Pinkfresh Studio Live More collection as well as the Dear Lizzy Saturday collection!  If you are hesitant to use cream and white together I always remember a rule I read.  If it doesn't look right, add more white.  It will help balance the layout when you're using those two together.  I hope you'll stop by my YouTube channel so you can see my first layout in over 2 weeks came together!
