Take 5 with Wendy

Good morning friends! Wendy here to share with you a layout for the May edition of Take 5. If you aren't familiar with this challenge, it's easy! From the list below you choose five things to add to your layout. That's it! You are more than welcome to use more than five, but you must pick five! Here's the list for this month:

Last fall I embarked on a project of digging through pictures at my mom's house. There is a treasure trove of photos there. Since they are older photos (not to mention that that have been sitting in a bin in the closet) they aren't the best of quality. I still feel it is important to scrap these memories of people and events regardless of their condition. So I am definitely up for the challenge of preserving them as best as I can. I love this picture of my grandma with two of her sisters being silly acting out the three wise monkey's principle of "see no evil, speak no evil, hear no evil."

I stash busted my Echo Park collection The Story of Our Family for my layout. I was very drawn to the owls and thought they were cute and fun. Then I had the idea of putting them in trees. That's when I was inspired by Cassie's layout. Instead of having cascading hearts, I would have giant trees that resembled the trees in this collection. I also used Fancy Pants (the hexagon pattern) and Simple Stories (that beautiful wood grain paper).

My oldest son is an excellent drawer and, when I was bouncing my idea off him, he offered to sketch out a tree that I could use. I cut it out, mirrored it, and cut out a second one. I liked them, but thought they were a little plain so I doodled bark on them for fun! I free handed it and wasn't very careful with my design or my lines. I think they look more funky and unique that way.

My layout includes the following from the list: 2. pink, 3. blue, 4. flowers, 5. patterned paper, 6. stripes, 8. doodling, 12. layers, and 14. stickers. I hope you are feeling inspired to pick at least five items from the list and play along with this challenge. Or any of the other monthly challenges Paper Issues offers.
