Play Ball with McJen

Hello Paper Issues friends!

Spring has sprung and if you know anything about the PI gals, they are major sports fans - especially baseball. To celebrate the arrival of baseball season, Paper Issues is hosting the Opening Day Challenge during the month of April.

While I do enjoy baseball, I have to admit that I am not a die-hard fan (sorry Devra). However, last summer we were able to watch our home team, the Seattle Mariners, play against the Angels while we vacationed in Anaheim.

For this 8 1/2 x 11 project, I began by using the FREE Have a Ball cut file from PI with the Pink Paislee Sweet Freedom Collection.

To create the background, I isolated the baseball in the cut file and duplicated it in various sizes. Next, I arranged them so they were all touching and welded the shapes together to create one cut file. I originally planned on making a 12 x 12 layout but found it wasn't working for me. I cut the blue patterned paper down, attached the cut file, and then trimmed around the edges so it fit.

I matted the photos on patterned paper and placed them along the top third of the page for balance.

Two banners were created from patterned papers and placed behind the larger photo. These were followed by several of the floral stickers and word sentiments from the collection.

Next was the title using wood and gold Thickers that are glued in place. While the glue was drying, I used a typewriter to create the journaling strips above and below the photos.

Last were the star stickers and enamel dots to give more color and texture as well as create a visual triangle.

Thank you for visiting today! Don't forget to visit the Paper Issues Store for the FREE cut file used on this layout as well as all of the paper goodness you could ever imagine. Use code McJen at checkout for a 20% discount on your entire order.

Now for the details of the challenge . . .

Play Balllllllll! Or watch people play. That counts too! We encourage you to grab those baseball themed photos and get them in the books. Not a ball fan, how about Field Day activities, team work, or stitching. Be creative, because we bet you hit a home run!

You have through April 30th to play along. Your entry must be new and no double dipping! That means, you can only submit each project once
