Mixing Things Up

Hi everyone! Please tell me I’m not the only one who has trouble sticking to one collection when they scrap. I just always seem to find myself mixing and matching like a crazy lady. For this layout, I mixed some gorgeous gold-stripe paper by Teresa Collins and some adorable red Christmas-ish paper and black/white plaid paper from the Falala collection by Crate Paper.

I love the look of red and gold together! For this layout, I decided to tackle my arch-nemesis: hand stitching. I really love the look it adds to my layouts, but, man! It takes forever and a day! I will also go ahead and confess: I am terrible at this! It looks ok from the front, but the back of my layout is hilarious, full of piles of tangled thread and knots galore. Good thing no one will look at the back. At least, let’s hope so! I’ll spare you any more of the gory details, but it ain’t pretty, people!

This layout features a photo of my son, who has just changed so much recently that it’s scary. Why on earth do they have to grow up so quickly? It just isn’t fair.

I decided to do one of my favorite designs, a sunburst. The rays of paper are fairly easy to make by creating a long rectangle, and then cutting it on a diagonal. It gives you a nice, long triangle to use for a sun ray.

  1. Not alone. I always mix. It’s more fun and part of the creative process. Well well if I must, I will... as a challenge. Great page!

  2. I think if I went through all my layouts I would be hard pressed to find very many that have just one set of papers used to design the page. I usually go through all of my prints and find those that I think go together and tell the story I want to tell and go for it!

  3. Wow, this is such a great layout - and a great mix up. I honestly struggle with the mish mash mix up but when i stretch and make it work, they are some of my favourites! Thanks for the inspiration to keep at it!

  4. This is just gorgeous. Love how the arrows direct your eye.
