Dear Lizzy Lovely Day 'Adventure' with Pol Prince

Hi again scrappy friends! It's Pol here today to share with you a brand new layout I made using the new Dear Lizzy collection, Lovely Day.

I don't know about you guys but I am so fed up of the constant rain and grey skies, I can't wait for Spring to show its face! With that in mind I decided to cheer myself up by creating a fun and cheerful layout with some lovely spring colours.

As I'm sure you all know by now, I absolutely adore stitching on my pages, so of course I had to include that! (I wrote a tutorial on using a Cameo to do hand stitching on your layouts last month). The hot air balloons in the Lovely Day ephemera pack inspired me to stitch some more balloons.

I had been hoarding the beautiful Lovely Day paper but I decided now was the time to use some, as it would make wonderful hot air balloons!
I cut different sizes of balloons out using my Silhouette Cameo, although these would be very easy to hand cut instead. I stuck them to white cardstock using acrylic glue, then pierced holes around the outlines using a little pokey tool, with a small foam mat underneath.
You can get special tools but equally a push pin and an old mouse mat would work just as well on a budget!

I then hand stitched around the balloons in the holes I had poked and secured my thread at the back using acrylic glue. Once this had dried I carefully cut around the stitched outlines.

Once I had my balloons ready I decided I'd better chose a photo for my page! This one was perfect! I spend a couple of hours every other Sunday driving to pick up my kids from their dad. Often I spend the whole time marvelling at how beautiful the clouds are, and I really enjoy the drive. I wanted to document this, so one Sunday I took this photo with my dash-cam.

I wanted some faint, soft clouds in the background, behind my balloons, so I cut a rough cloud shape out of waste card stock. I then used this as a 'reverse' stencil, and gently sponged blue Distress Ink round the outline of the cloud shape. I repeated this several times over the top two thirds of the white background.

I then cut a gentle curve shape out of spare card to use as a stencil for the hills, and over the bottom third of my page I gently sponged green Distress Ink.
This ended up being two different shades of green blended together due to me not washing my sponge properly after its last use! But it looked really good, and hey, I'm sure they say 90% of art is happy accidents!

I then arranged my balloons on the page, starting with the biggest for an illusion of perspective, and used foam tape to stick them down and give them dimension. I tucked my photo behind the biggest balloon and then added the balloons from the Lovely Day Ephemera pack.
The lovely rose gold car also made the perfect addition at the side of my photo.

I really didn't want much else on my layout because I wanted the focus on the balloons and clouds, but then I remembered the gorgeous Beep Beep paper
I'd been using the other side of the paper with its beautiful soft colours so I hadn't taken much notice of the other side. Those adorable little houses and cars were made for fussy cutting, and looked so cute stuck onto the hills!

I fussy cut some of the flowers from the Lovely Day paper and tucked them in and around my photo.
Finally I added the 'adventure' title from the Shimelle Hello Joy Phrase Thickers

I hope I've inspired you guys to have a go at fussy cutting, or even break out those inks! You don't need any special equipment, all I use is an old make up sponge! If you do, please share your layouts over in the Paper Issues Facebook Group, we'd love to see them!
